Autism Series: Structured Teaching, Visual and Proactive Behavior Supports, and Toilet Training with Neurodivergent Children – Online Series
Join the Autism Project for a new three-part series on classroom strategies that support children’s learning and success in the classroom. This series is intended for those participants who have already completed any introductory training about autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
November 3rd, 10th, and 17th from 6:00 – 8:00pm
An ITERS-3 Refresher for Administrators and Teachers – Online Series
This two-part series will provide administrators and teachers with a review of the key components of the Infant and Toddler Environment Rating Scale (ITERS-3) tool. Participants will refresh their understanding of key concepts, terms, and definitions in the tool, discuss strategies to prepare for a BrightStars ITERS assessment within their program, and ways to use the tool for program self-assessment and continuous quality improvement.
November 19th and December 3rd from 6:00 – 8:00pm
Social and Emotional Learning in Out of School Time Programs – Online Series
This training is an introductory course on understanding and implementing Social and Emotional Learning in Out of School Time Programs. Participants will be introduced to the impacts of social emotional learning have on school age children.

Federal Shutdown Update – SNAP Benefits to Halt Without Federal Action
Dear Community Partners,
As you may have seen, Governor McKee issued a statement today warning that without immediate federal action, federally funded Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits will not be distributed in November due to the ongoing federal government shutdown.
We will share official updates and guidance with providers and community partners as soon as information becomes available. In the meantime, please help us communicate accurate, reassuring information to Rhode Islanders, and coordinate efforts to support those who may experience hardship.
Key Messages for Providers to Share with Clients
- October SNAP benefits have already been issued and are not affected by the shutdown.
- No federally funded SNAP benefits will be issued for November unless Congress and the federal Administration act to end the shutdown.
- DHS operations continue. Customers can still apply, recertify, or make changes to their cases. It is important that customers ensure their cases are complete and up-to-date so that when SNAP funds are restored all eligible customers receive benefits as soon as possible.
- DHS will communicate immediately when federal direction changes or additional guidance is received.

Family Child Care: CANTS & Background Checks
Dear Valued Family Child Care providers,
To streamline the process of completing required Comprehensive Background Checks, DHS is making the following changes to the process for both fingerprinting and child abuse and neglect checks (DCYF). The following process will be effective immediately.
All Family Child Care Providers (you!), your assistants and over 18-year-old household members will use the updated Fingerprint Affidavit found on the DHS website. This form now includes a space for applicants to include their personal email address. The results will be sent to the individual requesting the checks so that they can upload the results into their RISES profile. For tracking purposes, a copy will also be sent to DHS. It is the responsibility of the applicant to upload their results to their RISES profile.
**Please note that Hotmail and AOL email address are not accepted by the Attorney General’s Office. If you or someone affiliated with your program has one of those email addresses, they will need to create a new email address using a different web-based email service.

Testing for Lead in Drinking Water
Free Testing for Lead in Drinking Water at Group Child Cares and Child Care Centers
The Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) is encouraging licensed child care facilities to sign up to have their drinking water tested for lead for free. This is part of an ongoing effort to identify and address sources of possible lead exposure. Child care facilities are required to test their drinking water when they are first licensed, but conditions in the water and plumbing can change over time. Right now, child care facilities can sign up to have their water sampled and tested for free. Along with the test results, RIDOH will provide guidance for how to lower lead levels in water or keep them low. Financial support is available to replace some faucets and fountains! New Noro-Like Outbreak Reporting System Coming Soon
New Noro-Like Outbreak Reporting System Coming Soon
Starting November 6, Rhode Island schools and childcare facilities will report all norovirus-like outbreaks in a new outbreak reporting system called REDCap. The Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) will host a Zoom training on how to use the system on November 5 from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. Please register to attend this training (offered in English).
- Before November 6, report new noro-like outbreaks as usual by calling the Center for Acute Infectious Disease Epidemiology (CAIDE) at 401-222-2577.
- Report new outbreaks starting on or after November 6 in REDCap (form in English).
- For ongoing outbreaks opened before November 6, continue to update RIDOH on the status through previous methods.

Esta serie ofrece a nuevos maestros, asistentes de maestros y educadores de cuidado infantil familiar una perspectiva sobre la importancia de las relaciones e interacciones positivas para el desarrollo y el aprendizaje de los niños. Se centrará en estrategias para planificar interacciones de alta calidad que profundicen el aprendizaje de los niños durante el juego, las sesiones de lectura en voz alta, las rutinas diarias y las transiciones. La serie es ideal para nuevos maestros y asistentes de maestros que buscan ampliar su rol actual en el aula y ser más participativos y efectivos en sus interacciones con los niños.

¡Nuevo! Serie sobre el autismo: Enseñanza estructurada, apoyo visual y proactivo para el comportamiento, y entrenamiento para ir al baño con niños neurodivergentes (En persona: Lugar sera anunciado)
Únete al Autism Project para una nueva serie de tres partes sobre estrategias para el aula que apoyan el aprendizaje y el éxito de los niños. Esta serie está dirigida a quienes ya hayan completado una capacitación introductoria sobre el trastorno del espectro autista (TEA). Los participantes aprenderán sobre prácticas docentes relacionadas con la enseñanza estructurada y los apoyos visuales, el apoyo conductual proactivo y el control de esfínteres para niños neurodivergentes. Cada sesión incluirá consejos y estrategias útiles para ayudar a los educadores a comprender mejor y desarrollar su confianza al trabajar con niños con trastorno del espectro autista (TEA).

Cuidado infantil familiar: CANTS y verificación de antecedentes
Estimados proveedores de cuidado infantil familiar,
Para agilizar el proceso de completar las verificaciones integrales de antecedentes requeridas, el DHS está realizando los siguientes cambios en el proceso tanto para la toma de huellas dactilares como para las verificaciones de abuso y negligencia infantil (DCYF). El siguiente proceso entrará en vigencia de inmediato.
Todos los proveedores de cuidado infantil familiar (¡usted!), sus asistentes y los miembros del hogar mayores de 18 años utilizarán la declaración jurada de huellas dactilares actualizada que se encuentra en el sitio web del DHS. Este formulario ahora incluye un espacio para que los solicitantes incluyan su dirección de correo electrónico personal. Los resultados se enviarán a la persona que solicita las comprobaciones para que pueda cargarlos en su perfil de RISES. Para fines de seguimiento, también se enviará una copia al DHS. Es responsabilidad del solicitante cargar sus resultados en su perfil de RISES.
Tenga en cuenta que la Oficina del Fiscal General no acepta las direcciones de correo electrónico de Hotmail y AOL. Pruebas de plomo en el agua potable
Pruebas gratuitas de detección de plomo en el agua potable en guarderías y centros de cuidado infantil
El Departamento de Salud de Rhode Island (RIDOH) está alentando a las guarderías con licencia a registrarse para hacerle gratis la prueba de plomo al agua potable de la guardería. Esto forma parte de un esfuerzo continuo para identificar y abordar las fuentes de posible exposición al plomo. Las guarderías están obligadas a analizar el agua potable cuando obtienen la licencia por primera vez, pero las condiciones del agua y las tuberías pueden cambiar con el tiempo. En este momento, las guarderías pueden registrarse para hacerle gratis la prueba al agua. Junto con los resultados de la prueba, el RIDOH proporcionará orientación sobre cómo reducir los niveles de plomo en el agua o mantenerlos bajos. ¡Hay ayuda financiera disponible para reemplazar algunos grifos y fuentes de agua! Disponible próximamente, un nuevo sistema de notificación de brotes similares al de norovirus
A partir del 6 de noviembre, las escuelas y guarderías de Rhode Island notificarán todos los brotes similares a norovirus mediante un nuevo sistema llamado “REDCap”. El 5 de noviembre del 2025, de 11:00 a.m. a 12:00 p.m. El Departamento de Salud de Rhode Island (RIDOH) ofrecerá una capacitación por la plataforma Zoom sobre el uso del nuevo sistema. Regístrese para participar en esta capacitación (disponible en inglés).
- Antes del 6 de noviembre del 2025, notifique los nuevos brotes similares a norovirus, como de costumbre, llamando al Centro de Epidemiología de Enfermedades Infecciosas Agudas (CAIDE) al 401-222-2577.
- Notifique los nuevos brotes que comiencen a partir del 6 de noviembre del 2025 mediante REDCap (formulario en inglés).
- Para los brotes en curso que se iniciaron antes del 6 de noviembre del 2025, continúe informando al RIDOH sobre su estado a través de los métodos anteriores.
