The CLASS provides an excellent framework for both classroom teachers and program administrators to reflect on the quality of caregiving and teaching practices and identify areas for improvement.

Learning Environment Training: ITERS-3 Overview ModuleSelf-paced
This course was created by the Center for Early Learning Professionals and provides participants with an overview of the Infant/ Toddlers Environment Rating Scale (Third Edition) (ITERS-3). This course is intended for educators and administrators who work in infant/toddler classrooms and programs.

Help Me Explore! Using Quality Materials for Play and Learning with Infants and Toddlers ModuleSelf-paced
Help Me Explore! Using Quality Materials for Play and Learning with Infants and Toddlers will ground participants in the foundational knowledge of how infants and toddlers learn best based on their development. The course will explore both the characteristics of high-quality materials that inspire play and learning for very young children, and the caregiver’s role in supporting interactions with these materials. Come learn how to use movement, the natural world, and open-ended materials to optimize children’s learning and development.

News from RIDE:
BrightStars and Public Preschools

By June 30, 2025, all RIDE-approved public schools serving children between the ages of 3 and 5 will be required to apply to BrightStars. BrightStars is Rhode Island’s Tiered Quality Rating and Improvement System (QRIS) for early care, education, and school-age programs. Through BrightStars, the Rhode Island Association for the Education of Young Children (RIAEYC) is creating a sustainable infrastructure of diverse, high-quality early care, education, and school-age programs using research-based practices that promote positive outcomes for children and families.

All-Provider Meeting PowerPoint & other OCC Updates

Valued Providers,

I hope you are all well. I am writing today to provide a couple of important updates.

1 – Apologies for the delay in sending an email about the All-Provider Meeting that happened recently! The updated information has now been posted to our website, as well as all the previous PowerPoints for your review. You can find that information here: https://dhs.ri.gov/programs-and-services/child-care/child-care-providers-staff-resources/handbooks-forms.

2 – For the next few months, we are going to be sending at least weekly updates using this constant contact platform, so it really is important that you are receiving these emails from the DHS Office of Child Care. Please email Nicole.Chiello@dhs.ri.gov if there is someone on your team you think you should be on this list serve.

3 – RISES Release 2 is coming! Please reach out if you have any questions as you are continuing to get your staff engaged in the system. RISES Coming Soon – English!

News from DHS:
Preparing for RISES Release 2

Dear Valued Providers,

First and foremost, happy short work week! I hope each of you are able to spend the holiday doing something that makes you happy.

Thank you to all of you who have taken the time and entered your information into the RISES Workforce Registry. We understand this is new and can be time-consuming – but a little bit of additional work now will save a lot of time in the future! We currently have over 5400 educators in the system! The team at DHS is hard at work preparing for the next phase of RISES, which will be the new Licensing System of Record (LSoR). As discussed at the recent All Provider Meeting, this launch will include several new workflows that will make it much easier to apply for or renew a license as well as making updates to your program. It will be even more important that all information related to you, your program and your staff is 100% accurate prior to that next launch (February 5, 2025).

Because of this, starting December 1, 2024, any workforce registry (RISES) submission that is incomplete or inaccurate will be sent back to the applicant for completion and updates. You will receive additional information alerting you of what was incorrect or inaccurate so that you can appropriately update your profile.

For those of you already in the workforce registry, DHS staff will be reviewing your profile for accuracy and will be in touch with you directly if there is anything inaccurate or missing. DHS will be available to support you in accessing documentation that we may have in your file if needed. If you believe that DHS has documentation that you need to upload to your profile that you do not have access to, please contact your licensor and Cc the general Child Care Licensing email at dhs.childcarelicensing@dhs.ri.gov.

Please allow some additional time for a response as we are currently auditing our files for documentation to prepare ourselves as well. We are excited to be launching the next phase of RISES in 2025 and remain committed to being a partner with you in this process.

One additional item has come to our attention that we’ve been getting quite a few questions about regarding RISES that is important to clarify. For those of you who have larger programs with multiple centers and/or a home office – your “home office” or “regional manager” or any additional office positions that oversee numerous programs should put yourself in RISES as a “multi-site supervisor”. These are not regulatory positions for licensing and will allow oversight of staff from several different programs.

As always, please feel free to reach out if you have any additional questions, comments, or concerns. We appreciate your time and patience as we work through this transition.

Professional Standards and Competencies for Early Childhood Educators

RIDE, in partnership with the Department of Human Services, is adopting the Professional Standards and Competencies for Early Childhood Educators held by NAEYC as core competencies for the early childhood workforce as well as the McCormick Center for Early Childhood Leadership – Whole Leadership Framework.

Registered Apprenticeship Program: Rhode Island Early Childhood Registered Apprenticeship Application Deadline: December 9, 2024 and Apprenticeships begin: January 2025.

Rhode Island College: Enrollment is Open for the Rhode Island College Infant Toddler Certificate of Undergraduate Studies. Classes begin January 2025.

Admission:

  • Must work a minimum of 25 hours a week in a DHS Licensed and CCAP-approved program. Infant Toddler Teachers will have priority enrollment.
  • All classes are offered in the evening in a hybrid format, with some sessions meeting face-to-face and some meeting online.
  • Complete the TEACH scholarship Application form
  • Contact Dr. Leslie Sevey at LSevey@ric.edu (Grant manager), or Cristina Reyes at Creyes@ric.edu (Project coordinator) for more information and to obtain the application.

Preparándose para RISES – Versión 2

Estimados proveedores valiosos,

Primero que nada, ¡feliz semana laboral corta! Espero que cada uno de ustedes pueda pasar las vacaciones haciendo algo que los haga felices.

Gracias a todos los que se tomaron el tiempo e ingresaron su información en el Registro de la Fuerza Laboral de RISES. Entendemos que esto es nuevo y puede llevar mucho tiempo, ¡pero un poco de trabajo adicional ahora ahorrará mucho tiempo en el futuro! ¡Actualmente tenemos más de 5400 educadores en el sistema! El equipo del DHS está trabajando arduamente preparándose para la siguiente fase de RISES, que será el nuevo Sistema de Registro de Licencias (LSoR). Como se analizó en la reciente reunión de todos los proveedores, este lanzamiento incluirá varios flujos de trabajo nuevos que harán que sea mucho más fácil solicitar o renovar una licencia, así como realizar actualizaciones a su programa. Será aún más importante que toda la información relacionada con usted, su programa y su personal sea 100% precisa antes del próximo lanzamiento (5 de febrero de 2025).

Debido a esto, a partir del 1 de diciembre de 2024, cualquier presentación del registro de fuerza laboral (RISES) que esté incompleta o sea inexacta se devolverá al solicitante para que la complete y actualice. Recibirá información adicional que le alertará sobre lo que fue incorrecto o inexacto para que pueda actualizar adecuadamente su perfil. Para aquellos de ustedes que ya están en el registro de fuerza laboral, el personal del DHS revisará su perfil para verificar la exactitud y se comunicará con usted directamente si falta algo o hay algo inexacto. DHS estará disponible para ayudarlo a acceder a la documentación que podamos tener en su expediente si es necesario. Si cree que el DHS tiene documentación que necesita cargar en su perfil y a la que no tiene acceso, comuníquese con su licenciante y envíe un CC al correo electrónico general de Licencias de cuidado infantil en dhs.childcarelicensing@dhs.ri.gov .

Espere algo de tiempo adicional para recibir una respuesta, ya que actualmente estamos auditando nuestros archivos en busca de documentación para prepararnos. Estamos entusiasmados de lanzar la siguiente fase de RISES en 2025 y seguimos comprometidos a ser socios suyos en este proceso.

Nos ha llamado la atención un elemento adicional sobre el cual hemos recibido bastantes preguntas con respecto a RISES y que es importante aclarar. Para aquellos de ustedes que tienen programas más grandes con múltiples centros y/o una oficina central, su “oficina central” o “gerente regional” o cualquier puesto de oficina adicional que supervise numerosos programas deben ubicarse en RISES como “supervisor de sitios múltiples”. Estos no son puestos regulatorios para la concesión de licencias y permitirán la supervisión del personal de varios programas diferentes.

Como siempre, no dude en comunicarse si tiene preguntas, comentarios o inquietudes adicionales. Apreciamos su tiempo y paciencia mientras trabajamos en esta transición.

De RIAIMHPráctica reflexiva en el contexto de la cultura y el lenguaje: Levantando la comunidad es un aprendizaje colaborativo intensivo que explora las dimensiones de la salud mental infantil y de la primera infancia en las comunidades latinoamericanas. Empieza en enero y la registración está limitada a 20 participantes.

La Administration for Children & Families tiene un nuevo Marco de sistemas para apoyar el aprendizaje de dos idiomas en entornos de educación y atención temprana.
