New Online BRIDGE-RI Multilingual Learner Course for Early Learning Providers and Educators

Alisa Baron PhD, CCC-SLP and Vanessa Harwood PhD, CCC-SLP from URI have teamed up to create the second course in BRIDGE-RI for the Early Childhood Language and Literacy Development Series titled, “Early Language and Literacy Development in Multilingual Learners”.

The 5-course series is intended to inform and support early learning providers and educators in their understanding of language development and literacy readiness in 0-5 year olds with the end goal of facilitating high quality education and academic success.

In this self-paced course, early learning providers and educators will learn about the link between early oral language skills to later literacy performance. Caregiver approaches to language in multilingual households will also be discussed. You will meet a local Rhode Island family and hear about their experience of raising two bilingual children. Strategies to foster a language-rich environment in early care and early childhood settings for multilingual children, and guidelines on how to identify red flags and refer multilingual children for additional assessment, will also be discussed.

Prerequisite: To be eligible to enroll, you must have completed the first course (90-minutes/1.5 PLUs) found HERE.

Participants can earn a certificate for 2 PLUs upon successful completion.

Create an account with BRIDGE-RI and join them for this interactive and informative course that will help you to better understand language development in multilingual learners.
