New! Fall PD is Here! Register Today!
Registration for Fall PD classes is now open! Check out the latest offerings and find PD that will set you up for a successful year. Classes begin the week of September 14th.
Below are some highlights of the fall offerings. Check online for the full listing of PD.
Out of School Time Basics – Starting the School Year Right! This 2-part training will explore the basics of setting up and running a quality School-Age program. The first session will look at the importance of school- age programming, relationship building, setting expectations, essential policies, and procedures that programs should follow and why. In addition, the content will address how to navigate the licensing regulations and safety. Session two will highlight group management strategies, how to implement youth choice, program structure/schedules, and curriculum ideas that will keep the children engaged while supporting learning. There will be lots of opportunities to share ideas and ask questions! Tuesdays, September 15th and 22nd from 10am – 12pm on Zoom
Family Engagement: A Culturally Responsive Approach: This newly revised series will help participants identify strategies for building trusting and reciprocal relationships with families and develop ways to create welcoming and inclusive environments for all. Tuesdays, September 22nd, 29th and October 6th from 6 – 8pm on Zoom
More than ABCs: Supporting Language and Literacy from Birth to Three: This new three-part series for infant and toddler teachers explores how communication develops from birth to age three. Participants will learn practical, culturally responsive strategies to support early language and literacy through conversations, books, storytelling, and literacy-rich classroom environments. Wednesdays, November 4th, 18th and December 2nd from 6 – 8pm on Zoom
A Developmental Approach to Classroom Management: This 4-session series will provide participants with the foundation to understand children’s learning needs through a developmental lens. With a developmentally appropriate approach, educators can provide targeted and tailored support to teach new skills, reduce challenging behaviors, and support social-emotional skill acquisition. This series includes a session on understanding and responding to children who exhibit defiant and aggressive behaviors. Wednesdays, October 7th, 21st, November 4th, 18th from 6 – 8pm on Zoom
An ECERS-3 Refresher for Administrators and Teachers: This two-part series will provide administrators and teachers with a review of the key components of the Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale (ECERS-3) tool. Participants will refresh their understanding of key concepts, terms, and definitions in the tool, discuss strategies to prepare for a BrightStars ECERS assessment within their program, and ways to use the tool for program self-assessment and continuous quality improvement. Thursdays, September 24th, and October 8th from 6 – 8pm at the Center for Early Learning Professionals
An ITERS-3 Refresher for Administrators and Teachers: This two-part series will provide administrators and teachers with a review of the key components of the Infant and Toddler Environment Rating Scale (ITERS-3) tool. Participants will refresh their understanding of key concepts, terms, and definitions in the tool, discuss strategies to prepare for a BrightStars ITERS assessment within their program, and ways to use the tool for program self-assessment and continuous quality improvement. Thursdays, September 17th and 24th from 6 – 8pm on Zoom
For Program Administrators
Beyond the Checklist: Pedagogical Leadership for Education Coordinators: This three-part professional development series is designed to support Education Coordinators in strengthening their role as pedagogical leaders. Throughout the series, participants will be encouraged to expand their thinking, examine leadership from new perspectives, and collaborate with others through reflective conversations, creative expression, and engaging, hands-on activities. Tuesdays, October 20th, November 3rd and 17th from 6 – 8pm on Zoom
Widening the Lens: Looking at Quality from a Program Administration Perspective: Discover what it means to take a “wide-angle lens” approach in this two-session training for program directors and administrators. Each session will examine what it means to look beyond the classroom and consider the overall organizational climate, leadership, and management practices that support quality early childhood education. The Program Administration Scale (PAS) will be used to assist participants in assessing these critical areas of program leadership and administration. Thursdays, December 3rd and 10th from 2 – 4pm on Zoom
New! Incredible Years®: Incredible Beginnings® Training funded by RI BHDDH and DHS
Incredible Beginnings® is part of the Incredible Years® (IY) series targeted for early care and education providers of children ages 1-5. The focus of the program is on strengthening teachers’ classroom management strategies, and promoting children’s prosocial behavior, school readiness, and reducing children’s classroom aggression and noncooperation with peers and teachers. Additionally, the program helps teachers work with parents to support their school involvement and promote consistency between home and school.
This online offering will provide participants with up to 36 hours of PD and a textbook.

PD and TA Update
PD Updates
- CELP Self-Paced PD can now be retaken once a year! If you are ready for a refresher of a self-paced course you took, you can retake it if it has been at least one year since you last completed the course.
- Providers should now upload their mandatory CPR/First Aid certification to RISES, where they will automatically receive up to three (3) professional development hours. These hours will count towards the required PD hours for that year. Do not submit any CPR/First Aid certifications to the CELP External PD Verification portal.
- External PD, that is not from ProSolutions and not from CELP is only uploaded through your CELP account through the External Verification Process. You can find additional guidance HERE [center-elp.org] and:
TA Updates
- You can request free technical assistance (TA) for your program from CELP. This is available to centers, preschools and family child care providers looking to improve the quality of the care and education they offer or looking to increase their BrightStars rating. Get started today!
New! News from DHS: Upcoming “Staying Informed Webinar Series”
This fall DHS invites customers and community partners to join the upcoming “Staying Informed Webinar Series.”
The various virtual webinars will cover a variety of topics and are designed to provide an in-depth overview of the Child Care Assistance Program, the SNAP Cost-of-Living Adjustment, the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, Rhode Island Works eligibility, and federal changes impacting Rhode Island Medicaid.
The webinars will run from September through December. The first will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 16, from 11 a.m. to noon, and will be focused on CCAP. The webinars are free and open to the public, but registration is required. For the registration link, please see below.

News from the Office of Child Care: Free Professional Development Resources: Early Education Pathways (EEP) and iCDA
The Learning Management System formerly known as the Individualized Professional Development (iPD) Portfolio, is now known as Early Education Pathways (EEP). Created and jointly funded by the Office of Head Start (OHS) and the Office of Child Care (OCC) at the U.S, Department of Health and Human Services, EEP launched in July 2026.
These courses are available for anyone employed in a licensed child care program.
Early Education Pathways (EEP) is an online learning platform for the early childhood workforce. It includes the resources previously available through the Individualized Professional Development (iPD) Portfolio; including the iCDA Preparation Series and additional CDA aligned courses. EEP offers free, self-paced courses, that help early childhood professionals build skills, strengthen practice, and support children and families. Whether you are new to the field or advancing your career, EEP offers flexible learning that fits your schedule. New to the EEP, learn how to access the EEP.
The iCDA Course Preparation Series is a comprehensive, accessible, and free pathway for professionals to meet educational requirements for their CDA® credential. This research-based series offers eight courses perfectly aligned with the Council for Professional Recognition’s educational requirements—all at no cost. These courses can also be taken as stand-alone training modules. In addition to the iCDA Preparation Series, EEP users can easily access additional CDA aligned courses to reach the required 120 hours, at no cost.
News from RIAIMH: Touchpoints: The HOW of Child and Family Engagement Training
This training is open to Early Care & Education professionals, and is offered by RIAIMH in partnership with Meeting Street. Registration is limited to 20 participants.
“The HOW of Child and Parent Engagement” is a learning collaborative on the Touchpoints approach, an evidence-based model linked to building strong family-child relationships from prenatal through age 5. Participants who implement Touchpoints in their practice partner with families to lay the vital foundation for children’s early learning and healthy development. Touchpoints provides a practical, preventative approach that supports professionals in forming strengths-based partnerships with families. This learning collaborative centers on reflection and cultural humility to support infant/early childhood mental health, early learning, and development. In addition to 6 virtual training sessions, this training includes 6 1-hour bi-weekly virtual reflection sessions after the training sessions. Attendance at all 4 hour sessions and 4/6 1 hour virtual reflection sessions is required for training completion & to receive a training certificate.
This will be offered online on 9/14, 9/21, 10/1, 10/5, 10/15, 10/19 from 2pm – 6pm.

- The Providence Public Library, at 150 Empire Street, has a new teen librarian and new offerings for in and out of school. They run tours, research assistance, general library knowledge and library card set up, and maker programming. If you would like to schedule a time to take your students, use these forms: Policy form and Sign up form. Este curso proporciona una sólida comprensión de cómo establecer relaciones positivas con los niños y las familias, comenzando por las habilidades que deben desarrollar en sí mismos. La serie is la primera de tres series relacionadas sobre el tema del desarrollo social y emocional en los niños.

Utilizando el FCCERS-3 para mejorar la calidad del programa

- ¡Ahora puedes retomar los cursos de CELP autoguiados cada año! Si quieres repasar un curso autoguiado que ya hiciste, puedes volver a tomarlo siempre que haya pasado al menos un año desde la última vez que lo completaste.
- Los proveedores ahora deben cargar su certificación obligatoria de RCP/Primeros Auxilios en RISES, donde recibirán automáticamente hasta tres (3) horas de desarrollo profesional. Estas horas contarán para cumplir con las horas de desarrollo profesional requeridas para el año en curso. No envíe ninguna certificación de RCP/Primeros Auxilios al portal de Verificación Externa de Desarrollo Profesional de CELP.
- El desarrollo profesional externo —es decir, aquel que no proviene de ProSolutions ni de CELP— solo debe cargarse a través de su cuenta de CELP mediante el Proceso de Verificación Externa. Puede encontrar orientación adicional AQUÍ y en los siguientes enlaces:

Este servicio está disponible para centros, preescolares y proveedores de cuidado infantil familiar que deseen mejorar la calidad de la atención y la educación que ofrecen, o que busquen aumentar su calificación en BrightStars. ¡Comience hoy mismo!
¡Nuevo! Noticias de DHS: Serie de Seminarios Virtuales “Manténgase Informado”
Este otoño, el DHS invita a los usuarios y socios comunitarios a participar en la próxima serie de seminarios web “Manténgase informado”.
Los seminarios web abarcarán una variedad de temas y están diseñados para brindar una descripción detallada del Programa de Asistencia para el Cuidado Infantil (CCAP), el Ajuste por Costo de Vida del SNAP, el Programa de Asistencia Energética para Hogares de Bajos Ingresos, los requisitos de elegibilidad para Rhode Island Works y los cambios federales que afectan a Medicaid en Rhode Island.
Los seminarios web se llevarán a cabo de septiembre a diciembre. El primero se realizará el miércoles 16 de septiembre, de 11:00 a. m. a 12:00 p. m., y se centrará en el CCAP.
