Below are some highlights of the fall offerings. Check online for the full listing of PD.

In Person Community of Practice Opportunity!

Early Care and Education Leader Community of Practice – In Person: The goal of this community of practice is to create a supportive environment for leaders in early care and education to share ideas, problem-solve, and deepen their understanding of leadership. We will facilitate content based on the needs and interests of the group, but we are also hoping that each participant will bring their own questions, concerns, and contributions to the table. Each cohort will meet once per month for approximately two hours, for 8 sessions. PD hours will be granted for participation. Thursdays, October 8th, November 5th, December 10th, January 14th from 4 – 6pm at the Center for Early Learning Professionals

For Infant and Toddler Educators

More than ABCs: Supporting Language and Literacy from Birth to Three: This new three-part series for infant and toddler teachers explores how communication develops from birth to age three. Participants will learn practical, culturally responsive strategies to support early language and literacy through conversations, books, storytelling, and literacy-rich classroom environments. Wednesdays, November 4th, 18th and December 2nd from 6 – 8pm on Zoom

For Program Administrators

Beyond the Checklist: Pedagogical Leadership for Education Coordinators: This three-part professional development series is designed to support Education Coordinators in strengthening their role as pedagogical leaders. Throughout the series, participants will be encouraged to expand their thinking, examine leadership from new perspectives, and collaborate with others through reflective conversations, creative expression, and engaging, hands-on activities. Tuesdays, October 20th, November 3rd and 17th from 6 – 8pm on Zoom

Widening the Lens: Looking at Quality from a Program Administration Perspective: Discover what it means to take a “wide-angle lens” approach in this two-session training for program directors and administrators. Each session will examine what it means to look beyond the classroom and consider the overall organizational climate, leadership, and management practices that support quality early childhood education. The Program Administration Scale (PAS) will be used to assist participants in assessing these critical areas of program leadership and administration. Thursdays, December 3rd and 10th from 2 – 4pm on Zoom

New! News from DHS: Celebrating the OPRE Project and Exploring the OPRE Products

The four-year research partnership project between EDC and DHS, Family Child Care and Beyond: Exploring Targeted Child Care Investments in Rhode Island, has come to a close. This collaborative project explored financial investments and other supports designed to help increase the supply and quality of family child care providers in the state. The research team would like to extend a special thank you to the two family child care providers who served on the project’s advisory board: Virginia Najarro and Diane Nelson. Their assistance with reviewing data collection instruments and providing insights on the experiences of family child care providers were extremely valuable.

Final products have been posted to the project website (all of which are available in English and Spanish):

  • One-pager on the effects of PD/TA on family child care providers’ longevity and BrightStars quality ratings
  • One-pager on findings from a family survey about parents’ preferences when choosing among child care options
