PD Updates
- Providers should now upload their mandatory CPR/First Aid certification to RISES, where they will automatically receive up to three (3) professional development hours. These hours will count towards the required PD hours for that year. Do not submit any CPR/First Aid certifications to the CELP External PD Verification portal.
- External PD, that is not from ProSolutions and not from CELP is only uploaded through your CELP account through the External Verification Process. You can find additional guidance HERE [center-elp.org] and:
TA Updates
- You can request free technical assistance (TA) for your program from CELP. This is available to centers, preschools and family child care providers looking to improve the quality of the care and education they offer or looking to increase their BrightStars rating. Get started today!
New! News from DHS Important CCAP Updates
Dear providers,
We hope you’re all having a great week and gearing up for a smooth start to summer!
Summer Flip reminder:
Any school‑age children who will be attending your program during school hours this summer must have their enrollments updated before or during their first week of their new summer schedule. Next week—beginning June 7, 2026—is the first week school‑age children are eligible to attend during regular school hours, so please be sure their enrollments reflect their summer hours.

For all providers:
- The Direct Deposit Authorization form is updated on the DHS website.
- Remember that you no longer need to submit an absent notice when you mark children absent, so the old absent notice is no longer required. If you have a family with a special circumstance resulting in more than four weeks of absence, please submit the new Special Circumstances Absent Notice (posted on the DHS website) for approval.
For family child care providers:
We have updated several family child care specific forms on the DHS website:
- Family Child Care CBA Payment Request Form
- Family Child Care Registration Reimbursement Fee Request
- Family Child Care Sick Leave Authorization Request
CCAP for Child Care pilot enrollment reminder:
If you are caring for a child that is approved for the CCAP for Child Care pilot, please make sure to ask the parent if they are also approved for regular CCAP and ensure the child is enrolled in both places to ensure your program receives full payment and reduce backbilling:
- the pilot program (enroll via the JotForm link through PCG), and
- regular CCAP (enroll in the CCAP Provider Portal).

News from DHS Comprehensive Background Check Reminders
Dear Valued Providers,
We hope you are enjoying the spring weather! Thank you for your continued commitment to providing child care to the families of Rhode Island. DHS would like to share important reminders regarding background check requirements. Please review the information below carefully.
Comprehensive fingerprint-based background checks are required for all child care staff who are onsite while children are present, regardless of whether they provide direct care or supervision. This requirement also applies to volunteers, family child care providers, assistants, and household members over the age of 18. Comprehensive checks include:
- Local and national criminal background checks
- Local and national sex offender registry checks
- Child abuse and neglect registry checks
- Out-of-state child abuse and neglect registry checks are required for any individual in the roles listed above who has lived outside of Rhode Island within the past five (5) years. Please refer to the guidance document at the bottom of this page for additional information on who requires these checks and how to obtain them.
DHS is currently reviewing background checks submitted through the new RISES platform. Once reviewed, you will receive notification indicating whether the submission has been approved or rejected. Background checks may be rejected for the following reasons:
- The background check is expired;
- The individual indicated they have lived outside Rhode Island within the last five years;
- An incorrect form was uploaded;
- The uploaded document does not meet comprehensive background check requirements;
- A required section of the background check is blank;
- Examples of acceptable documents can be found on the DHS website: DHS Background Check Requirements
For rejected DCYF checks:
- Please do not contact DCYF directly to request copies of previously completed checks.
- If you do not have a copy of a recent DCYF clearance, or if DHS does not have a copy on file for family child care providers, a new request must be submitted through DCYF.
- Additional information regarding the DCYF clearance request process can be found here: DCYF Clearance Request Portal
For rejected criminal background checks:
- If you have not completed a comprehensive fingerprint-based background check through the Rhode Island Attorney General’s Office within the last five years, you must complete an updated check.
- The Attorney General’s Office now offers appointments for fingerprinting services. Walk in services also remain available.
- For more information or to schedule an appointment, please visit RI Attorney General Background Checks
- Information on scheduling an appointment can be found in the FAQ section under “Do I need an appointment”
- Family child care providers who believe DHS may already have a copy of their most recent fingerprint results should email the DHS Child Care Licensing email to request a copy.
- When requesting fingerprint checks, please ensure you are using the correct fingerprint affidavit available on DHS Background Check Requirements .
- When completing this form, please also include a personal email address so results are sent to:
- You directly; and
- Your program (for child care centers)
- DHS (for family child care providers)
Please be aware that:
- Failure to ensure that all required individuals have current and accessible background checks in RISES will result in high-risk noncompliance findings during monitoring visits and/or may delay license renewal approval.
- Any staff identified during a monitoring visit as missing required background checks will be required to leave the program immediately and may not return until the required documentation has been uploaded into RISES and approved by DHS. This may result in temporary classroom or program closures until compliance is achieved.

News from RIDE: 2026-2027 RI Pre-K Lottery is Now Open!
RI Pre-K, entering its 18th year, provides free, high-quality Pre-K education to eligible 4-year-old children. This year, RI Pre-K is in 20 communities and serves over 2,800 children.
Families in participating communities with children who will be 4 years old by September 1, 2026, can apply here.

News from RIDOH: New Measles Resources for Educational Settings
In response to an increase in measles cases nationally and 2 recent cases in Rhode Island, the Rhode Island Department of Health has developed resources for use by schools, child care settings, summer camps, colleges, and universities. Measles is so contagious that if one person has it, up to 9 out of 10 people around them will also become infected if they are not protected. It spreads easily to others when an infected person breathes, coughs, or sneezes. The best protection against measles is vaccination.

These self-guided, interactive learning modules have been developed for child care center directors, owners, education coordinators, facility managers, school leaders, architects, landscape designers, and individuals working to support centers and schools in their continuous quality improvement efforts.

- The Invisible Backpack: Trauma 101 for School Communities. Participants will leave this training with a foundational understanding of trauma and its impact on student learning, behavior, and development. Educators will gain a clearer lens for recognizing how trauma can show up in the classroom—particularly through challenges with regulation, attention, executive functioning, and relationships—and will learn how to reframe behavior as communication rather than defiance. Participants will walk away with practical, trauma-responsive strategies they can implement immediately to increase safety, predictability, and connection in their classrooms, along with increased confidence in knowing when and how to seek additional supports through school-based systems. Overall, this training will support staff in responding with greater compassion, consistency, and effectiveness to meet the diverse needs of students. June 24th from 8am – 3pm

¡Esperamos que todos estén teniendo una excelente semana y preparándose para un inicio de verano sin contratiempos!
Recordatorio de Summer Flip:
Cualquier niño en edad escolar que asistirá a su programa durante el horario escolar este verano debe tener sus inscripciones actualizadas antes o durante la primera semana de su nuevo horario de verano. La próxima semana, a partir del 7 de junio de 2026, es la primera semana en la que los niños en edad escolar son elegibles para asistir durante el horario escolar regular, así que asegúrese de que sus inscripciones reflejen sus horas de verano.

Si está cuidando a un niño que ha sido aprobado para el piloto de CCAP para Cuidado Infantil, por favor asegúrese de preguntar al padre si también está aprobado para el CCAP regular y asegúrese de que el niño esté inscrito en ambos lugares para garantizar que su programa reciba el pago completo y reducir la facturación retroactiva:

Noticias de DHS: Recordatorios completos de verificación de antecedentes
Estimados y valorados proveedores,
¡Esperamos que estés disfrutando del tiempo primaveral! Gracias por su compromiso continuo de proporcionar cuidado infantil a las familias de Rhode Island. El DHS desea compartir recordatorios importantes sobre los requisitos de verificación de antecedentes. Por favor, revisa detenidamente la información que aparece a continuación.
Se requieren verificaciones completas de antecedentes basadas en huellas dactilares para todo el personal de cuidado infantil que esté en el lugar mientras los niños están presentes, independientemente de si proporcionan atención directa o supervisión. Este requisito también se aplica a voluntarios, cuidadores de familias infantiles, asistentes y miembros del hogar mayores de 18 años. Las comprobaciones exhaustivas incluyen:
- Comprobaciones de antecedentes penales locales y nacionales
- Comprobaciones locales y nacionales del registro de delincuentes sexuales
- Comprobaciones del registro de abuso y negligencia infantil
- Se requieren comprobaciones del registro de abuso y negligencia infantil fuera del estado para cualquier persona en los puestos mencionados anteriormente que haya vivido fuera de Rhode Island en los últimos cinco (5) años. Para cheques DCYF rechazados:

Noticias de RIDE: ¡El sorteo de RI Pre-K para 2026-2027 está abierto!

Noticias de RIDOH: Nuevos recursos sobre el sarampión para entornos educativos
En respuesta a un aumento en los casos de sarampión a nivel nacional y a dos casos recientes en Rhode Island, el Departamento de Salud de Rhode Island ha desarrollado recursos para su uso en escuelas, centros de cuidado infantil, campamentos de verano, colegios y universidades. El sarampión es tan contagioso que, si una persona lo contrae, podría infectar hasta 9 de cada 10 personas a su alrededor si no están protegidos. El sarampión se propaga fácilmente a otros cuando una persona infectada respira, tose o estornuda. La mejor protección contra el sarampión es la vacunación.
