I hope everyone is having a wonderful week. This email is to let you know that the Office of Child Care is currently being audited by the Office of the Auditor General. For those of you who have been in the field for a long time, an audit like this was conducted in 2019 when Child Care Licensing was at the Department of Children, Youth and Families. This audit is focusing on health and safety practices, including comprehensive background checks and information that we look for with initial application and renewal application paperwork.
As part of this audit, a member of their audit team is going to be conducting visits on a random set of providers in the next couple of months. During these visits, he/she will be checking staff files to ensure there is a file on site (either paper OR electronic but needs to be accessible when someone comes in) with all the required information for everyone who would be on your payroll. In the coming weeks, they will provide me with the random sample, and I will reach out to let you know if you have been selected. I will also provide you the name of the person and when they will be coming so it will not be a surprise visit and you can safely ID them and have them sign in. In the meantime, I wanted to let the entire group know what was happening.
As a reminder, this audit is not a reflection on you all as providers. They are directly auditing the way we license and monitor providers and ensuring that we have the internal controls we need in place to effectively do our jobs. Any findings will not have your information on it at all – everything will be compiled, and no identifying information will be provided in the report.
