Using Intentional Language with Young Children to Support Emotional and Academic Development - Online Series

The language we use with children significantly impacts their emotional and academic engagement, both in school and in daily life. In this training, participants will explore both verbal and nonverbal communication, examining how each influences message delivery. We will analyze common language patterns used with both children and adults and explore strategies for shifting these patterns. Throughout the sessions, participants will engage in self-reflection on their mental models and examine how these affect their thoughts, feelings, and ultimately their language.
Upon completion of the series, participants will:
- examine how mental models shape thoughts, feelings, actions, and their influence on daily communication with others
- analyze internal speech and current use of language with children and adults
- implement intentional language strategies in the classroom
- examine the relationship between emotions and language by assessing how feelings influence the words we use, especially in emotionally charged situations
Participants can earn up to 6 PD hours by participating in two facilitated online sessions and completing two assignments.
