Using Picture Books to Support Children’s Social and Emotional Learning and Beyond - Online Series
- Description
Children’s books are an amazing resource for teachers in the early childhood field! Not only are they FREE at your local library, but they can also be used to teach all of the Rhode Island Early Learning and Development Standards (RIELDS). This series will focus on how participants can choose and use high-quality picture books to support children in the following areas: Social and Emotional Development, Cognitive Development, and Language Development. The target age-group for this series is preschoolers (ages 3-5). Participants will explore practical strategies for strengthening these skills, have opportunities to test them out and reflect with colleagues, and leave with a list of amazing books.
Upon completion of the series, participants will:
- summarize the learning standards for social and emotional, cognitive, and language development
- apply knowledge of children’s development when using children’s literature
- implement engaging read aloud practices strengthening children’s skills
- demonstrate strategies for choosing a high-quality picture book
Participants can earn up to 10 PD hours by completing three facilitated online sessions and three intersession assignments.
