Young Mathematicians: Using Math Games to Build Minds and Motivation 2.0 – Online Series

up to 10.5 PD hours English Family Child Care Administrators and Educators, Preschool and Pre-K Educators

Young Mathematicians 2.0 is a newly designed PD series that will improve preschool teachers’ capacity to facilitate and build children’s mathematical knowledge and thinking using math games and family engagement. Similar to the original series, each session will focus on the use of fun and engaging math games that highlight several key math concepts. In the new 2.0 series, teachers will learn how to support sorting and classification, geometry and spatial reasoning, and patterns. Participants will learn how to implement a series of math games, use formative assessment strategies to track children’s growth, and apply instructional approaches that build children growth mindset and persistence.

Participants who complete the series will increase their ability to:

  • intentionally plan games and use instructional strategies that facilitate the exploration of critical math skills
  • understand and articulate key math concepts related to classification, geometry and spatial reasoning, and patterns
  • use math games to support children’s development of persistence and executive function skills

Participants can earn up to 10.5 PD hours by attending three facilitated online sessions and completing three online assignments.
