The Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) has designed a two-part online professional development series to support early childhood educators’ knowledge and skills in child assessment.
The modules in each series are designed for individual viewing at your own pace. We recommend that you view all modules in Series 1 before moving on to Series 2.
You can receive PD hours by completing a survey and a self-assessment activity using the Workforce Knowledge and Competencies framework relevant to your position.
Series I: Assessment in Early Childhood Settings is comprised of three modules – Early Childhood Assessment Overview, Linking Assessment to Curriculum and Instruction, and Types of Assessments and Their Purposes. The series presents Rhode Island’s vision for quality child assessment practices in all early childhood education (ECE) settings.
You can receive 1 PD hour for viewing all three modules and 1 additional PD hour for completing the self-assessment activity. Instructions for obtaining a certificate of completion are included at the end of the third module.
Series II: Formative Assessment in Early Childhood Settings is comprised of six modules designed to help early childhood educators understand and implement the formative assessment process.
You can receive a total 4 PD hours for viewing all six modules and completing the survey and self-assessment activity. Instructions for obtaining a certificate of completion are included at the end of the sixth module.
